Station Casinos President Richard Haskins dies while vacationing in Michigan

American hotel & casino gaming company Station Casinos confirmed yesterday that its president, Richard J. Haskins, passed away on Saturday (July 4th) following an accident in a watercraft ride while vacationing in Michigan.

Haskins, who was reportedly 56 years old, had been serving as the president of the gaming & entertainment giant since October 2015. Confirming the death of the senior executive, the company extended its ‘deepest sympathies’ to the family members of the deceased.

Mourning the loss of the senior executive, Station Casinos said in a brief statement, “It is with profound sadness that we announce that Richard J. Haskins, President of Red Rock Resorts, Inc. and Station Casinos LLC, died today in a watercraft accident while vacationing in Michigan … we extend our deepest sympathies to the Haskins family.”

Before being elevated to the position of the president of Station Casinos, Haskins served the gaming and entertainment company as a senior executive. He had been with the company for the previous 25 years.

According to the deceased’s LinkedIn profile, he served the company in various senior roles, and he graduated from the School of Law at University Of Kansas in 1990. In addition to being a senior executive in the casino business, he was a member of the Nevada Bar Association.

Frank Fertitta III, chief executive officer and chairman of the Red Rock Resorts’ Board of Directors, described Haskins as one of his best friends and recalled his insightful impact on the gaming business of the company. Mourning the death of his friend, Fertitta stressed that he had no words to express what Haskins meant to the company as well as to him. As per the CEO’s statement, Haskins had been a ‘trusted advisor’ and a ‘brilliant strategist’ in good as well as bad times of the company. He again stressed that it was really hard for him to even imagine Station Casinos’ success without Haskins.

In recent past, Haskins remained in news for leading Station Casinos during and after the COVID-19 shutdown of its gaming facilities due to the deadly virus. He openly expressed concerns for team members and guests as the facilities resumed operations in phases. Once, he had said that nothing was more important for his company than the health and wellbeing of employees, guests and the entire Las Vegas Community.

Details on circumstances around Haskins’ fatal accident and funeral plans haven’t been revealed yet. Haskins’ successor at Station Casinos will be announced at a later date.
